Unions offer helpline for summer workers

The summer job helpline is open from 09.00 to 15.00 on Mondays to Fridays. The service is available in English, Finnish and Swedish. This year the helpline is run by Anna-Sofia Kivi.

In addition to the telephone service, the labour confederations are also advising summer workers through Finnish language web pages at www.kesaduunari.fi and Swedish language pages at www.kesaduunari.fi/svenska. These pages include a checklist of things to remember when taking a summer job and a form for requesting more detailed expert advice.

The summer job helpline and web service were first launched in 2005 by SAK. Most of the queries received in earlier summers have concerned pay, working hours and various bonuses. Questions have also arisen over concluding employment contracts.

Through the summer job helpline the labour confederations advise anyone in need of guidance regarding the rights and duties of employees. There is no need to be a union member, and the helpline will also respond to anonymous callers.

The three labour confederations in Finland are the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions - SAK, the Finnish Confederation of Professionals - STTK and the Confederation of Unions for Professional and Managerial Staff in Finland - Akava.
