New web service at SAK

SAK has renovated its English language web service at www.sak.fi/english. The main change is a restructuring of the website, which now has five main divisions: What's new, At work, Membership, This is SAK and Indexes. The standard English language content of the site has also been expanded.

What's new

The What's new division continues to offer news in English about SAK and the labour market. Recent previous bulletins can now be found under each news article, where there is also a link to the news archive. What's new is also the place to find the English language publications, presentations and statistics of SAK.

At work

SAK&#;8217s English language working life pages provide basic details of the rights and duties of employees in Finland. More comprehensive information on this subject is still available at the website of the SAK information point in Tallinn, Estonia (www.sak.fi/tallinn).

Membership

The Membership division explains the advantages of union membership in detail, i.e. better working conditions, advice and legal aid, training, etc. These pages also provide guidance in finding and joining the right trade union.

All of the trade unions affiliated to SAK are presented separately in this division. This presentation includes contact details of each union together with a description of the industries and occupations that it covers, the total membership and subscription fee of each union, and a link to membership application forms.

This is SAK

This is SAK presents the work, objectives, structure and history of SAK, which is now in its centenary year. This division also includes details of how the labour market works and various levels of collective bargaining. Other subjects covered in the This is SAK division include the international work of the organisation and its training system.

Indexes

The Indexes division provides tools for finding information. It begins with an alphabetical index of the SAK website, and it also includes simple and advanced search functions and a site map. The Indexes division provides other useful information, such as the contact details of SAK and the English logos and emblems of the organisation.

Navigating the website

The various language versions of the SAK website may be accessed from a pull-down menu at the top of the page. The Finnish and Swedish language pages are structured in the same way as the English pages. The Finnish language pages now include more extensive details of working life and trade union membership, and the membership materials have also been expanded on the Swedish language pages.

Links to further information are provided in the margin to the right of the news and information articles. Highest on the list are the internal links of the SAK website, while links below these lead to external websites. These are then followed by relevant publications.

Most of the articles have a feedback link at the bottom of the page, which opens a form for any comments that the reader may wish to submit.

Other SAK web services are accessed through links arranged on a narrow grey bar across the top of the page. The right-hand end of this bar includes a pull-down menu providing direct access to the websites of SAK-affiliated trade unions.

The technical aspects of the SAK website are the responsibility of the leading IT service company Plenware Oy.
