The Italian trade unions CGIL, CILS and UIL have called for a general strike on 16 April. The general strike focuses on the weakening of Workers Statute, specially Article 18 which protects employees against unjustified dismissals.

The Finnish trade union confederations SAK, STTK and AKAVA attach great importance to tripartism both at the national and at the European level. The Italian government appears to be abandoning the social concentration track which has been a permanent feature of those relations for a long time.

In their letter to the Italian ambassador in Finland, Finnish trade union confederations express their support to the legitimate demands of the Italian trade unions and call upon the Italian government for starting genuine negotiations with the social partners on the development of working life and social issues for the benefit of Italy and the whole of Europe.
