Lauri Lyly re-elected as President of SAK

The SAK Congress elected Lauri Lyly (58) on Tuesday to continue as the President of SAK for 5 years. The election was unanimous. He has been the President of SAK since May 2009.

In the 1980s Lyly worked as the head shop steward at the Loviisa nuclear power plant. In 1989 he became collective bargaining secretary of the Electrical Workers' Union and was elected President of the union in 1997. In 2004 he took over as head of SAK's department for safeguarding interests. Lyly is originally an electrician. Later on, during his working life career, he studied to become a technician, and he has also studied company management and association expertise.

Matti Huutola (52) continues as Vice President of SAK's Executive Board. He was elected by the new Executive Board at its first meeting. Prior to his work at SAK he was from 1998 to 2003 a Member of Parliament, representing Lapland. From 1977 to 1989 he worked as a carpenter and after that as an official at the Construction Trade Union.

The new Executive Board, elected by the Congress, consists of the President, the Vice President and 18 members. The Executive Board has now two members less than in the previous 5-year period. The decline reflects the amalgamations of a few SAK unions during the previous 5-year period.

Those SAK union Presidents who are not members of the SAK Executive Board are invited to participate in Board meetings where they have the right to speak.

Tuire Santamäki-Vuori (58) continues as the Chairman of the General Council. Doctor of Science (Economics) Santamäki-Vuori has held the position since 2001. She is the President of the Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors.

As the Vice-Presidents of the General Council were elected Piia Yli-Heikkuri from the Service Union United PAM and Mika Vuoti from the Metalworkers' Union. The new General Council has 119 members. All affiliated unions of SAK are represented in the Council.
