Values and strategy

SAK is Finland’s largest labour confederation and a respected specialist in the world of work. Our core operations are defending the interests of employees, improving worklife and promoting a fairer society across a wide range of subject areas.

SAK engages in social advocacy, promoting the status and opportunities of current and future generations of working people at work and in society as a whole. We seek to bring about the world’s best worklife that enable both employees and businesses to flourish.

Our values

Dignity at work

Jobs and employment must be decent, providing an adequate and fair living wage.

Work must enhance the welfare of workers, with opportunities to influence their conditions and to enhance their own work and skills.

Equality

Equality and non-discrimination must be touchstones of employment, society and the trade union movement.

We stress the importance of non-discrimination and inclusion in all of our activities.

Standing up for people

The SAK trade union movement promotes the success and wellbeing of every worker before, during and after all career stages.

We seek security for all people as the world of work evolves.

We collaborate with our member unions to address anomalies at work and to promote good worklife in practice.

SAK strategy for 2024–2027

The strategy of SAK for 2024–2027 focuses on three goals.

Securing the status and livelihood of workers in society. This means good terms and conditions of employment, laws that protect employees and ensure public services, and adequate pension and social welfare benefits. We seek to give employees a voice at work, enhance participation at workplaces, and ensure opportunities for development and training.

Serving as a forum and activator for collaboration and dialogue between our affiliated unions. We support our affiliates in collective bargaining and coordinate the formulation and implementation of common objectives. We share and apply expertise, views and experience with our affiliates.

Strengthening the bargaining position of the trade union movement as a social partner. We are involved in improving work and worklife, and we highlight the role of employees in such issues as new technology and the green transition.

Our mission is to be a respected specialist in the world of work. Our lobbying work is accordingly based on profound expertise and established research findings.
