May Day has not been cancelled! Join us for a live SAK broadcast on Friday 1 May
All traditional May Day public assemblies and parades have been called off this year due to the coronavirus epidemic, but you can still celebrate Labour Day with us online on Friday 1 May.
Our live SAK #virtuaalivappu Facebook broadcast will begin at 13.30 on May Day, and will feature music, speeches and debate in the normal way. You can express your applause to speakers and performers using emojis, or submit your own written greetings to everyone following the broadcast.
The half-hour event will include May Day addresses from SAK President Jarkko Eloranta, Vice-President Matti Huutola, and the President of Service Union United PAM Annika Rönni-Sallinen, who chairs the Delegate Council of SAK. We shall also enjoy uplifting music from the Punatähdet agit-rock band.
Our virtual May Day broadcast will be hosted by Journalisti magazine editor-in-chief Maria Pettersson and leading PR industry influencer Jan Erola. The live broadcast will be filmed at SAK headquarters in Hakaniemi.
Enrol now by clicking the Going button on the SAK #virtuaalivappu Facebook event page for up-to-the-minute details of our virtual May Day programme.
You can also visit the event page to view May Day speeches and greetings from representatives of SAK trade unions. These speeches will be uploaded to the page on May Day morning, and will also be available through the main SAK website.
The #virtualivappu broadcast will also be shown on the SAK website as it happens, with a recording provided for later viewing. So be sure to join us as we fly the union movement flag and stay safe this May Day!
